Zenki is Hanbei's spiritual aid and substitute, in his lifetime he was also a famous and powerful Ommyouji himself.
Appearance[]
When motivated to that effect Zenki can appear as a fox spirit, in his human form he looks very much like a typical Ommouji. he appears to be quite young, it's unknown if this form reflects the age he died at or if he just prefers to assume this form. He has fox-like eyes, pale skin and appears to wear an advisors helmet.
Personality[]
Zenki is loyal to his master and is willing to decieve her for her own sake, he is very intelligent, maybe even more so than her, if not he is at least ancient enough to be more experienced than her. He is sometimes a bit critical of others but does it for their own sakes. The worst thing a person can do in his pressence is insult his master, make her cry or demean her ability as an Ommouji, in any of these cases he will very near kill any offender. He is also rather lazy and prefers to be lying down rather than sitting formally.
Yoshiharu has described that he comes off as a character from a BL game.
Background[]
He was a famour Ommouji before his death centuries before. Due to his power in life as a spiritualist he has become a high level spirit in death and is so powerful that owning him alone could make Hanbei the strongest Ommouji in Japan. At some point, Hanbei somehow became his master.
In the novel, it's been hinted that Zenki was Tsuchimikado's ancestor, Abe no Seimei himself.
Plot[]
Invasion of Mino Arc[]
He acts as Hanbei's substitute when meeting with Yoshiharu and Nagamasa. He invites them to have drinks and eat Dango before they converse, but reveals his fox form after they do and reveals that he cast an illusion which caused them to drink and eat horse piss and dung. Inuchiyo stabs him with her spear, seemingly killing him and ending the illusion to reveal the real Hanbei Takenaka. He is re-summoned shortly after by a crying Hanbei and very nearly kills Yoshiharu for upsetting his master.
